THE ART OF SAN FRANCISCO
Jennifer Boyuan Han
My work explores the dual nature of technology and its impact on human emotion and culture. In my Humanbot series, I reflect on the merging of humans and machines, using nostalgic Chinese family photos to show how rituals have become mechanical. Inspired by my childhood belief that I was part robot, I use satire to question the loss of emotional authenticity in digital life. I also examine how social media and AI erode traditional Chinese culture, using blue-and-white porcelain as a metaphor for displacement and commodification. Recently, I’ve turned to colored sand and torn photographic fragments to explore memory and identity—fragile, shifting, and continually re-coded in our technological age.
